There are some retailers that we have had repeated bad products or
services from. The three i refuse to use again are:
1. JC Penny. The large mall store I went to has no return desk. No
stated return policy. You are at the mercy of some clerk at a cash
register. The night I tried to do a return with receipt, neither cashier
was from USA and could not speak much english. On 3 of 3 returns over
the years they were combative every time.
2. Firestone: They have had major problems with their tired blowing
out. In 1976, 3 of 4 Firestone tires blew on on my new Buick within the
first 3000 miles.
3. Maco Auto paint shop. They consistently paint over rust, dirt etc.
About all you can expect their paint to last is 1 year. You will never
get the low advertized price. That price is only if your car has
perfect paint already.
Just curious if others have a few retailers they recommend not using?
May help some younger people avoid problems.
Costco because of their credit card policy
Best Buy because they are "not on commission" which means the staff there
have no incentive to know about the products they sell.
New Car dealerships: I find haggling with used car salesman easier and
better than dealing with new car salespeople although I doubt many will
agree with me.
Bell Canada. Perhaps the most poorly run utility in all of North America.
The only major private Canadian service corporation that I know of that only
that only has 9 am to 5pm business hours on their help phone numbers. A
company that has 60 percent of the phone business in Canada should not keep
9 to 5 hours for support.
Unionised Labour. I try to avoid buying products or services from companies
that have union representation esp in retail. Although I support a
labourers' right to organise, many times the costs of that organisation are
passed on to the consumer in price, poor quality, slow response, poorer
design products etc. Sometimes you can't avoid unionised companies but I do
try to boycott a few.
