/We/ formed our own culture and hung out with our own type, so social
pressure to reform just drove /us/ further into our own. I did not get
away from that mentality until after I moved to where I had no social
links, and started rethinking things.

Since the 60's, the number of "socially responsible" lawyers acting as
enablers has increased. I think it's falling now.

For an example of the sort of thing lawyers can do to increase crime, go
back and take a look at the behavior of the women lawyers defending that
animal in Florida, Lionel Tate, who killed a tiny girl when he was 12.
The "Liberal" establishment did all they could to prevent the lesson
"don't hurt others", from sinking in. They made him regard himself as
the true victim. Last I heard, he was in trouble with the law again.

Treating the perp as a victim is nothing new, nor it only a liberal thing.
Iirc it was (is?) Texas where "consideration" was given to the husband
when he punched out (or worse) his cheating wife (and/or the boyfriend).

As for Tate, according to CNN, his lawyer for the trial was James Lewis;
he was convicted and sentenced to life without parole. The lawyer for the
appeal that got him released (on the basis that the state had refused to
evaluate his competency) was Richard Rosenbaum. Instead of retrying him,
the state re-offered the deal his mother (a state policeman) had refused
before the trial. Since he'd already served the three years in jail part,
he was released (by a male judge).

According to a quick look, he's back in jail for 30 years for violation of
his probation.
