I'm not comfortable with this type of activity on my property.
Damage to plants and exposure to bacteria is something I want to avoid.

you have children, you know what I mean! :-)

I am a parent, raised my children around the droppings of our own
free-range chickens (and other stock), and they never had a problem.

That was before the days of avian flu.

They were brought up to wash their hands after using a lavatory and
before cooking, handling food or mealtimes.

Remember, wild birds will be constantly shitting in/on/over your garden
so the chickens are no worse a threat. Shielding children from every bug and germ is not in their best interest, they need exposure so that
they develop antibodies and a strong immune system..You're being
over-anxious on the health score imo.

However, chickens can be a nuisance around your veg garden plants
etc. (They won't hurt trees). Invite a friend who owns a terrier breed of dog, to spend a day with
you. Preferably, a dog that isn't used to domestic poultry at home.
By evening, either all the chickens will be dead or they won't ever
come near your place again.
