Oh, lord. You have a federal PITA on your hands.

she is poor. She can apply for more free money from the
gummint.

So, why are you having such a problem with someone getting a 1%
interest loan ... but not a peep out of you about those discussing
planting commercial species of trees to get a tax reduction?

I think the 1% loans are a wonderful thing for those who need them.

Based on Jena's disclosure about a program I previously knew nothing
about I passed the information on to several people who really have
need and a legitimate use for it. Thank you Jena.

I looked it up too. I was curious if that's the program that is used to
help with the hook-up costs for the new sewer system in the adjoining
township. Looks like it is. I did notice that with the grants for seniors
that wouldn't be able to pay the money back, there is a 3-year recapture
period.

He died about 25 years ago, but there was man that lived on the adjoining
property that was sort of a hermit. (Not really though because he did
seek out people to talk to.) He had a small house, a garage, and 60 acres
of rocky, wooded land. He was mild mannered and not noticeably psychotic;
he'd worked enough when he was younger to be able to buy the property, but
at some point he was no longer able to cope. He lived there for ~40 more
years, with no car, no electricity, a wood stove, and a spring for water.
He made some money picking wild blackberries for sale, mowing lawns (with
a reel mower, of course), etc. Until probably the last 10 years of his
life, the land wasn't really worth selling; similar land was abandoned to
tax sales, as low as $1/acre.

The point I'm getting to here is that county public assistance was wise
enough to provide him with enough money to buy food, etc but otherwise
left him alone. He lived the way he wanted to and taxpayers didn't have
the expense of providing him with public housing and prepared meals.
Often, a modest amount of money spent to enable someone to stay in their
home is a major savings of public funds in the long run.

I am more fortunate and although I would love to get my hands on 1%
money I simply don't qualify. I don't begrudge anyone who needs the help
getting it.
