Australia is similar. You can get an automatic refund if what is in the box doesn't match what is described on the box. If it doesn't work as you would expect. If it is not up to the task required.
In fact, if you buy an item, expalining to a salesman that you need it to do something ridiculous, unless he says "I'll sell it too you, but you are on your own for that use" you can take it back if it doesn't do the (insane) job successfully "fit for purpose"...
Personally one of my favourite ways of getting back at stores that give bad service and have dumb sales staff.
