For EOTW nut cases, or cartoons about them? If you are looking for the
nut cases, for Y1K the Pope told everyone to get ready for the Second
Coming. I understand it was quite a function.

TEOTWAWKI is great for those long winter evenings when you don't have
anything else to do. I just ran across a list in rec.arts.sf.science,
posted by Wildpad, which I will copy here in flagrant violation of his
copyright. I noticed he left out the Second Coming and the Kali Yuga,
so our apologies to the religiously inclined.

This is the way the world ends:

1) The ocean's heat pump is going to fail.

2) The ozone layer is shrinking.

3) We're going to be hit by a comet/asteroid/whatever.

4) The oceans will warm enough to allow the methane-ice to melt,
duplicating the Permian Mass extinction.

5) Influenza will become pandemic / a weaponized virus will be
released / etc. etc. etc.

6) Yellowstone or another super-volcano will erupt.

7) The Earth's magnetic field is failing.

8) Bio-diversity is shrinking and the whole ecology will soon
collapse.

9) Hillary might become president.

10) An ice age is coming.

11) Global warming will destroy us.

12) The Earth's axis is overdue for a rollover.

13) Increasing globalization will to destroy the world's economy.

14) Internet porn is draining the world's economic and physical
strength.

15) Destruction of the rain forests will turn the world into a desert.

16) The tail of a comet can wipe out all the communications
satellites, plunging the world into chaos.

17) Disenfranchised/unpaid Russian nuke sub commanders are going to
launch WWIII. / terrorists win / etc.

18) Increasing television/video game usage is lowering the average IQ.

19) The sun may be going Nova.

20) A Gamma Ray Burst anywhere in our galaxy.

21) A supernova within 100 light years.

22) The terrorists win.

23) Gray goo.

24) Scientists might create a stable black hole with one of their
large colliders.

25) We run out of oil.

26) Overpopulation.

27) Phthalates used in the production of plastics produce a
catastrophic decline in male fertility

28) Fundamentalists win and drag humanity down into an anti-scientific
Dark Age / Atheists win, destroying the very fabric of society and
creating a barbaric Dark Age.

29) We create super-human AIs, who immediately take over.


Is that it?

Is that all that we have to worry about?
