True, but IMO the more important function of the death penalty is to satisfy the primal needs of humans for retribution.


America is one of the few countries in the world that uses the
death penalty. Most are in the Middle-East.

If its use as a deterrent is to be effective it needs to be more public and spectacular. Public hanging would be the ticket - the media circus surrounding that would be a spectacle in itself. And watching someone jerking around by the neck wouldn't be all that far removed from the garbage already on TV.


Some may favor ol sparky or beheading but neither provides the 360deg viewability of a hanged body - ditto for firing squad execution. Hanging is bloodless and requires minimal equipment and clean-up. The body can even be left out for several days for the benefit of late comers.
