I would learn everything you can about this before subject deciding what to
do.
Some natural gas furnaces are very efficient these days like 97 or 98
percent. They are so efficient, they use a plastic vent instead of metal!
I don't know if these can easily be converted to propane or not?
And are modern oil furnaces just as efficient?
Then what are your local prices for propane -vs- oil? Which has a more
stable price?
Then of course the water heating and cooking issue.
If you are looking to save money, perhaps a high efficiency furnace along
with "Energy Star" windows/appliances and extra insulation may be the
ticket.
Study the following web site like there is no tomorrow. It is a lot of work
to learn about all this stuff, but well worth it in the long run
financially...
