I'd consider 50 yards way too close to the road - if the road has any
traffic.
I'm one of those people who hate noise.

that means it'll be quite a bit colder. Makes for a shorter growing
season.

depends on how good the drainage is and how much rain you get.
Our lot where we live does on average, and it's quite steep in places.
Do you have to have the garden right by the house?

on the northern slope you'll get a shorter growing season (or have to
grow
hardier crops). Consider the microclimate there. Is this really what
you want?

> My wife suggested we could try terraced gardens on the ridge. Has

the ridge gets the most wind (if any. If you got tall trees all around
wind
may not be a consideration, but that has its downsides too, like
stagnant
cold as well as heat - and humidity).

not me (yet) - still very slowly terracing the parts that aren't
wooded. I have to
bring in the dirt to fill this, I'm on bedrock (and in a very different
climate).
