Re: Buying land: What should you look for?

For the plots I'm considering, the local power lines either border the
property, or run close by.

I spend part of the day traipsing around one of the plots today before
the rain and the setting sun drove me away.

Good points: Scenic. Possible short driveway to a paved road.
Possible house-site 50 yards from the road. Short driveway, but the
slope would hide the house from the road.

Bad points: The property tends to slope north (with a few gullies
leading to east/west slopes). The only house-site that I found drops 1
foot every 10 feet. Is this going to be a problem for a garden? All
my previous gardens have been on southern slopes. This may seem silly,
but my previous, smaller gardens, have halved my food bills during much
of the year.

My wife suggested we could try terraced gardens on the ridge. Has
anyone had any experience in terracing wooded country?

Thanks for all of the advice so far.
