Did you take the gas line loose at the carburetor to see if gas is
flowing at the end of the line? If the carburetor has a float, is the
bowl filling up with fuel? If it is a suction type carburetor, check
the screen at the end of the feed tube to see if it is clogged.
It sounds like it isn't getting fuel from the gas tank and is stopping
due to fuel starvation. If it were ignition or compression, it
wouldn't run when you feed it fuel manually.
