Churches: "First" church of this or that...

I was driving around today and was wondering why many of the churches I see
are called "First" church of this or that. Why no second?

So I thought I would search on google.com to see if there was a second
church of something. There was! And a 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.!

Actually, there is a "Thirty-Eighth Church of Christ" listed here...
