You aren't clear if you're talking about a dedicated unit
permanently mounted or a 3 point hitch add on.

3 point hitch add on backhoes tend to be like a bucking horse
because of the slop in the mounting. There are cludges to help
with that (usually chain and binders to eliminate the slop.

Add on units also tend to have slightly smaller cylinders
(to reduce their weight) so they don't have as much power
and they have a tendency to be jerky (very fast.)

35 hp is certainly enough for smaller backhoes like you're
talking about. If circumstances dictate an add on backhoe
they're OK but they're not nearly as nice as the permanently
attached ones.

I've been using a 3 point hitch backhoe on a Farmall 460 while
my big JD loader/backhoe is in the shop for a transmission pump
replacement. I'll be thrilled to get the JD back, hopefully
tomorrow morning. These are two completely different worlds.
