hey thanks a bunch, definetly helped in starting my research.

we are definetly not doing free range. we don't have enough space and
don't want poop all over or our garden eaten up.

We are going to build a nice coop and penned area though.

I found a cool website dealing with this (backyardchicken.com) and my
hubby got some good pen ideas for building.

We will probably wait til spring and get some grown hens, like the
commercial breed laying hens mentioned by the pp, already for egg
production and we won't have to worry about winter being too cold.
