You need a brooder to keep chicks warm until they fledge. Usually you
buy several chicks, and when they get old enough to tell the difference
between the roosters and the hens, you eat the roosters.
If you are going to let chickens run loose, bantys do pretty well taking
care of themselves. They can fly to avoid predators, and they have
spurs that will rip a pretty good gash in anything that grabs them. The
eggs are small but tasty.
