Mom Who Sent Adopted Russian Boy Back on One-Way Flight Must Pay $150K
Plus Monthly $1K Support

A mother who sent her adopted Russian son back to his home country on
a one-way flight in 2010 must pay $150,206 damages for breach of the
adoption contract, legal fees and back child support, plus $1,000 per
month in child support, beginning June 1, until he turns 18, a
Tennessee judge has ruled.

Applying a March ruling, Bedford County Circuit Judge Lee Russell
imposed these amounts Thursday on Torry Hansen, whose 10-year-old son,
Artyom Saveliev, is now living in a group home in Russia, according to
the Shelbyville Times-Gazette.

The damages were sought in a lawsuit filed by the agency that handled
the adoption, the World Association for Children and Parents.

Hansen, who defaulted in the Tennessee case, is reportedly seeking a
California Superior Court order to enforce what she says is an order
by the Russian Federation Supreme Court annulling the adoption.

Because of his adoption by Hansen, the boy is a U.S. citizen, the
article notes.
