want to live that has a lower tax rate than the US. Why, Dave, the

down, after you've elimiated people's need to pay income tax, social
security tax, medicare tax, capital gains tax, inheritance tax,
self-employment tax, gift tax, etc. etc.? The people are going to be
awash in new money, and they're going to spend...


No, Dave, something you haven't thought about (not unusual). Say,
right now, you have a state and local sales tax of 6% or 7%, fairly
typical. People pay it and don't think much about it.

Now, let's say you take away the income tax and make it a sales tax.
And with the fed sales tax the rate is maybe 18%. NOW you're at a
point where people start to consider tax avoidance. Its too much
money right in front of them.

RIght now, what do you track on a person to check their compliance?
ONE income tax return. But suddenly your in a positioin of having to
track thousands of purchase transactions a year, NONE of which are
large enough by themselves to be worth the effort. Don't you think
there will be all kinds of efforts to move stuff off the books?
