nick,
The frustration isn't due to the process of adhering to a chain of command, it's due to the related hesitancy of the CIC to made a decision.
Poor baby, can't take a little uncertainty? If he can't deal with that furstration, how is he competent to deal with the fog of war that exists in combat?
Now let's get down to the Chain of Command.
Barak Obama, Commander in Chief
Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense
Mike Mullen, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff
Geeoge Casey, Army Chief of Staff
David Petraeus, Commander, CENTCOM
Stanley McChrystal, Commander, US Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A)
Each of those levels has dozens of peer-reports, with hundreds of personnel by the sixth level down.
All of them have been able to deal with said frustration without chatting with the Press.
So what is McChrystal's problem? What General Officer takes his frustrations public instead of to his Commander, namely, General Petraeus?
Does McChrystal not have Trust and Confidence in his Commander? Do you have any idea what that means among General Staff?
Allan
McChrystal is waiting for marching orders and he's not getting them. The problem does not lay within the military chain, it lays with a civilian whose leadership ability, in military and civilian affairs, is highly questionable.
