He draws a salary so he should pay his way. Why the hell do you think he's drswing a salary if everything is to be provided by the taxpayer.

What would you do if you were in his
position.

If I was drawing his salary I'd pay my way.

I agree. It's unfortunate that it costs so much, but in the big
picture, it's a spit in the ocean.
Actually, it's refreshing to hear that he did something that cost the
taxpayers an amount that doesn't start with a "B" or a "T" and as far
as I know, this action didn't require anyone to sacrifice their job
for the next generation.
8-)
He has one of the most stressful jobs around.

I want him to take
breaks and do some "fun" things.
Play with the dog, have a barbecue, watch a movie, shoot pool. Lots of fun things to do.

Too much work isn't good for him or
the decisions he must make.
Tough

As you have indicated, what is wrong with
spending a few thousand dollars to protect him while he does what most
of us have wanted to do at some point in time.
Last I heard was the bill was over $100,000.00. That's an expensive weekend. But what the hell, you can afford to finance his "fun" trips.

Nick, usually, they do make partial payments for totally private trips. What they DON'T pay for is all the security and communications equipment and personnel.

Actually, we happen to be arguing about this in Nowhere. Our city administrator has a city vehicle that she uses to travel back and forth to her home. (Round trip might be a mile) The IRS now says that's a taxable "perk", however(!!) since the city electrician city-owned truck contains specialized tools and he might be called at all hours, that is a non-taxable non-perk.

Taxable perks is not something new. That brings back unpleasant memories.

The President of these united states sure has a hell-of-a-lot of perks that go along with the office. Gives thought to wondering what the IRS could do with that.

When the president travels to a purely political event, normally the national party will reimburse the government for his portion of the travel expenses. But even here, the security expense is for 24/7 coverage, doesn't matter what he's doing.

Yeah, knew about the security, but can't help thinking that might need some adjustment. After all, Obama has said the wealth of those who make over $150 K/year should be spread out. Why should he be exempt.
