I did that my entire working life. One fellow I worked for for
six years, everytime I walked into his office, he asked, "What's this
going to cost me?" ;)
So what was it you were wanting to spend money on?
Myself. Usual trips to his office were to ask for a raise. ;)
OH! Well, looking at his statement above, the good part is that he
knew in advance he'd give you a raise, just hadn't decided how much.
Did you tell him if its on a charge card he's not really out the
money?
Once I asked for $50/wk. raise and he countered with $25/wk for
3 months, then another $25/week. I thought it was the same as I asked,
so I agreed. From that point on, I think it thought it unfair to take
advantage of my mathemagical abilities.
Pretty slick. In fact, if he'd just given you a schedule of raises
stretching out a couple of years, then he would have kept you out of
his office!
