Better to say they are well paid to act nuts to draw a bigger share of that
faction of the American electorate that moves its lips when it reads and
thinks the guvvimint is filled with Cumminisks comin' to take their shootin'
irons away. Appealing to the lowest common denominator is lucrative: look at
the number of talk radio shows and Conservative book clubs.

They're getting screwed just like everyone else and it's those that
play to them that are bending them over and giving them the unwelcome
thrills...
