Oh, gimmie a break - one article for 1 year doesn't a trend make. You
may
remember I work for the DoD, and did so thru the 90's, too. Project
after
project was cut. We lost good airplanes to the cuts, as well as
continued the
unfortunate obsession of closing bases and labs. The Naval Avionics
Center
where I worked was closed, and was the only place where we could make
needed
integrated circuits for military aircraft which was commerically out of
production such as a replacement 8080 cpu or some other ancient piece of
electronics. Lots of capability went down the drain under Clinton. The
ES-3A
was canceled - a plane that listened - and could do things with a radar
receiver that are still likely classified, and would boggle your mind if
I
could tell you about 'em. Not flying those off carriers any more. What
a
tragedy. All weather fighter/bomber? Canceled. A-6 was not replace
because
the A-12 was canceled. F-111 was taken out of service and not replaced.

And of those items absolutely none of them would have been of any use
in the last two wars.

But _you_ know better, eh! :)

There was much carnage occurring in the military under Clinton.

You might recall we had propserity too. Any connection?

None. But here was massive layoff's caused by the closing of military
bases.

So you would have kept those unnecessary bases open as a sort of charity
ward? And those people got jobs in the burgeoning Clinton economy, which
grew faster than at any time in history. And the budget surplus was the
icing on the cake.
