Re: TechQ's...cuple of

Nicholas,

but that damn thing does'nt
seem to run any faster.

If you have enough, more won't make any difference.

If you have a HDD that chatters a lot, it could be the Indexing that others
have mentioned. I prefer to remove it rather than turn it off. It is only
used for Windows Search, anyway.

Control Panel, Add/Remove, push the Add/Remove Windows Components button on
the left, and uncheck Indexing Service. It takes less than 60 seconds to
remove or reinstall.

That said, there are other apps that do their own indexing, with similar
results to Windows Search. Things like music and picture
library/catalougers/organizers. Wally's recommendaion of StartupCPL is a
sound one. Make sure you know what's starting and why, then try turning off
those that might try to index files.

And, of course, beware nastyware. A free scan is available at

Hi folks,

I've just changed 2 DDR2 Ram @ 512MB/each for 2 DDR2 Ram @
1024MB/each. The change does show up, but that damn thing does'nt
seem to run any faster.
Do I have to adjust something somewher (BIOS)?

On that mainboard there are still 2 free Ram-Slots.
What would happen if I re-plug those 512MB DDR2 Rams .....like
1. slot 1024MB
2. slot 1024MB
3. slot 512MB
4. slot 512MB

I vagualy remember having heard/read somewhere sometime, that this
might even slow-down the machine some more????

Finaly:
Most of my photos are stored in JPeg. File size differ, of course. But
even if a file containes six or seven photos only, it takes quite a
while (after opening that file) until the thumps show up.
Btw: On my "old" PC .......running on an Intel P II things were
running faster in this regard.

General information:
CPU is Intel P4 / 3,2GHz
Graphic is NVidea RADEON X700

I know it's not the fastes graphic-card....but then again: I'm not
playing any fast games on this.

Thanks for helping

Nicholas
