At 7:55 PM tonight, NASA is launching the Shuttle Endeavour.
<BHFG> John said, depending on atmospheric conditions, we should see
the sky light up from here, approximately 90 miles away as the
mockingbird flies. Michael will be driving to meet us, and bringing a
videocam.

The launch was spectacular; it was visible for six minutes!
Sometimes, I feel as though I'm being silly ... so fascinated by these
events ... but, then again, it's probably the one aspect of myself that
I never would hope to change/improve. ;)

Michael likes to make movies; John is just as silly as me.
Life is good.

I saw the coverage when I was visiting my ladyfriend.

I got to thinking that there exists a feasible r and delta r, such that a
large mass in geosynchrounous orbit could be held.

I would think that a single mass were better replaced by two masses, with a
rigid connector of high tensile strength (steel or better).

If you had a dozen rockets on each mass, you could work out how to bring
delta r closer to r.

When the earth re-upps the mass, it will need to be farther away, but once
a vehicle is attached to this arrangement, he can navigate it locally as if
he were 20 feet deep on a dive. Then he can take a tow strap and fire his
rockets for a few seconds. The equivalence principle attends.

I've been thinking about quantum Albert lately. I f he here going north on
my street *or* west on Lomas at specific 4-vectors, he would have landed
where I did, just with a little more time to think "this is gonna be real."
