Interesting read in Sunday's paper. Seems like people in the State
Department along with their puppet Karzi want to keep poppy growing (and
exporting) in the southern half of Afghanistan, while the Defence
department is being prevented from eradicating them.
Most people conveniently forget that the Taliban just about wiped out poppy
cultivation when they were in power. http://tinyurl.com/6ddknf (look at the
charts near the bottom of the page). Under Karadzic poppy farmers are
protected so long as they pay off the right people. Hence the record crops.
The Taliban takes 20% to fund its activities as well.
