Re: Hey, Allan - "www.burell.com"

cg,

Because his mother wanted it left as it was when he died. She continues to
maintain the hosting as a memorial to him. I posted the following on May 9
of last year.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mike Burell isn't one of the two, he passed away in 2005 from an unknown,
rapidly degenerative neurological condition, similar in symptoms to Lou
Gehrig's disease (ALS). His wife died soon after. As frustrating as he
sometimes was as he educated himself on the internet and website design, he
was a kind soul, a brilliant fellow, and a very quick study. As little
fondness as he had for the Cobb County Police, Mike built the Douglasville
Sheriff's Department website, learning what he needed to know as he went
along. He quickly earned the respect of virtually all of the Officers and
Staff, and was placed on their list of Fallen Officers.
He was also very active in the AITP, and was posthumously awarded their
Volunteer of the Year award in 2006.
His site is still on the Internet, maintained by rturner, and his computer
is maintained by netsmith. In reviewing some of his work, I one told
Richard, "I've been reviewing his VB and SQL programming. He was good. Damn
good. Quick study, very bright, excellent comprehension, very committed."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The AITP is at http://www.aitp.org/.

Though the Douglas County Sheriff's website has contined to evolve, it still
demonstrates Mike's architecture and design, and may be seen at

http://www.sheriff.douglas.ga.us/default.htm

I later posted to you:

"Do I recall that he was Tasered by them? Or perhaps I'm mis-remembering. It
happens at my age. If so however, Medical Science is learning new things
about the long-term effects of exposure of the Central Nervous System to
subcutaneous high-energy electrical discharges. More to follow as those
studies proceed."

Further research has discovered that, years afterward, survivors of
lightning strikes sometimes develop a condition very similar to what Mike
had.
