His father was Mayor of Chicago during the 1968 Democratic Convention.
He was a very strong Law & Order guy.
Law and order is measured by how well the police beat people up?
I still have the chilling image in my mind of a live broadcast of a
demonstration during that convention. It showed a demonstrator
peacefully climbing into the back of the "paddy wagon" when a
policeman grabbed him by the shirt, hauled him down and started
beating on him with his night stick. It was a real-eye opener for me
at that age.
