J,
Like all software, Trend has continued to evolve. Your experience is dated -
you probably wouldn't recognize Trend these days. It is more efficient than
any I've benchmarked, and has vastly richer function. In fact, it is on my
service-laptop, a old Dell 500 MHz celeron maxed-out at 384 meg, which
performs quite well. I use Trend on it to find stuff other products miss.
It's really pretty simple - with over 200 residential customers, it is the
most teenager-proof product I've found. When I install it, I don't hear from
the customer until the subscription comes up for renewal, if even then.
I still have customers with other AV products (except Norton), who I hear
from regularly. Keeps me in business. But, one by one, the ones with kids
have switched to Trend and never looked back. Well, except for one whose
sister-in-law convinced her to go with another product. It took her 13
year-old son exactly four days to render the system rather useless. I
networked the laptop to her system and scanned her drive from the laptop,
removed Vundo, Smithfraud, Lowzone.bi (that one disables virtually every
antivirus and antispyware product out there, then downloads other trojans),
six Lowzone-downloaded trojans, then reinstalled Trend.
Haven't heard from her since. Maybe it was my observation that unlike her
sister-in-law with toddlers, I had around 300 teenagers in my customer set
to protect computers from, and nearly a decade of experience doing so. Or
maybe it was the size of the bill?
