I have mixed emotions about using nuclear power.
Since 2/3rd's of the earth is covered with water, why not develop ways
and means to use hydrogen to drive power plants. That would be a never
ending source of fuel. However, as you said in an earlier post, there
would be a lot of people who would be against doing anything.
Locally, the City of Long Beach announced the City has found a way to
obtain hydrogen from ocean water at lesser cost than methods presently
used. However, it's still not cost effective and research work is
continuing.

Thing is, we have the technology in hand now to create solar arrays that
orbit the earth. Very efficient. No worry over cloudy days. But we'd
rather spend 80 billion on Iraq.
With current technology we would have to cover about 20% of the land mass
in the US to get enough electricity for current needs. This doesn't even
take into account transmission issues. By putting the collectors in
orbit, you get efficiency increases by many magnitudes and can beam the
power down to where it is needed regionally without the need for
transmission across the continent. Win Win IMO.
