Re: Laptop strangeness

Maybe, it was Satan?

I fired up my laptop yesterday after an extended period of time where
it was dormant and not plugged in.

Now all the programs, well not all but a bunch, are asking me to
register them. The bookmarks in my browser were gone (now restored).
Stuff showed up on the desktop that I had deleted when I bought the
laptop.

None of this stuff is fatal but it sure is a pain in the *** looking
up registration numbers, deleting unwanted stuff that is back,
restoring the task bar contents (done), etc.

It is like the lack of power in the battery caused some memory chip to
lose its contents so the laptop now thinks it is back to where it was
when I bought it.

BTW, the software I installed is still there.

I'm hoping there is some fast fix for this. Does anyone have any
experience with this sort of thing. I'm running Win XP (SP2).
