Re: White House Reused (Misused?) Backup Tapes

Cletus,

Were they lying then, or are they lying now?

Yes.

Based on historical perspective, if there is to be a supposition made
regarding this Administration, that would be mine.

If you were running a business and there were records that you were
required by law to keep for more than two years, and they were
missing, yes I would be disappointed.

There seems to be some doubt that e-mails in question are actually
missing or ever existed.

There is no doubt.

Moreover, there seems to be a great deal of
supposition that e-mails being sought, if they exist, fall under the
preservation category of "federal records or presidential records."

Read the Presidential Records Act and decide for yourself. Be honest.

From what I read, two agencies have tried to obtain information they
_think_ exists but can not prove such information actually existed.

How are they to do that if they can't subpoena records? Do you find
nothing wrong with the destruction of evidence? There are *millions*
of e-mails missing. This is a violation of federal law. Do you
understand that? The Presidential Records Act doesn't say they get to
preserve records whenever they feel like it, it says they have to do
it all the time. And their policy led to the SNAFU (if it wasn't
intentional). They intentionally dismantled the e-mail archiving
system that was in place when they arrived in office! How can you make
excuse after excuse for these people? If you had an employee who lost
your critical business records like this, would they remain your
employee?

I'm reminded of a passage from the book The Little Prince. There's a
chapter where the King says to the little Prince, "If I order my
General to fly and he can not fly, who is wrong? I, for ordering the
General to fly when he can not fly or the General for disobeying a
Kings order to fly."

I'm reminded that we've already been through this many months ago, and
the administration *admitted* that there were missing e-mails. Now
they are saying that no mails are missing, or that they never existed.
Were they lying then, or are they lying now?
