On Tue, 26 Jun 2007 10:46:50 -0400, Rick the Barnacle Brain.Mine is a bit of a different situation. At the TV station, we get requests for disks frequently, in fact, we make a tidy little income off of copied disks.

When I was doing a lot of DVD stuff in years past, I found the doom9
forums pretty informative on software guides and functions. Not
specific to Nero, but I bet you'd find a lot of stuff there and links
to even more.

I simply burn data dvd's these days for back up and have lost interest
in most of the" technocrati".
WIth the advent of HDXvid, DVDs seem pointless.
Thanks. I'll take a look.
I agree that the DVD of yesterday are headed in the same direction as
the floppy disks but there is a little matter of HD/Blu-ray cost that
will have to be dramatically reduced before the dinosaurs inherit a
new cousin.
I have a Sony AVCHD capable camera, and it takes full high definition videos. BUT I have to convert the AVCHD format to MPEG2 because none of the exisiting DVD players (at least around my home and probably in the village) will play them. (Interestingly enough to make it irratating, playing directly from the camera into the High Def TV produces stunning videos.)
And Hi Def, even when converted to MPEG, still makes for very large files, and if the object program is much over 45 minutes, I can't get it on one DVD disk.
Soooooo........
Not only will the cameras have to be upgraded, most of the exisiting TV sets will have to be upgraded and all of the DVD players will have to be upgraded.
On my new computer, standard, hi-res video processes at about 25 to 40 frames per second. (I'd estimate that a one-hour high-def video would require 8 hours of un-interrupted computer time to process to completion) Hi-def processes at 6 to 8 frames per second. Even thought I can process AVCHD, I CANNOT watch it on my computer. I'm guessing my video card isn't up to the task, but HI-Def freezes temporarily during replay. (ATI Radeon X1300Pro - 256MB)
So, for the forseeable future, we will remain standard resolution. It's only after hi-definition becomes the "expectation", (and it will eventually), will we convert to high def.
