My needs are fairly simple, but there are many who want...and want

The drive isn't necessarily to acquire "things" but to acquire success,
knowledge and yes, sometimes power (it is that you need to pay attention
to and fear).

....and all that would depend on the individual's definintion of
"success", "knowledge" and "power". Take the last, power over oneself
or power over others? The first is the only important one...

There are many reasons some remain in poverty, many through no fault
of their own, however, many it is indeed in their control. That is,
stay in school, don't marry young, don't have babies and more babies
when you can't even afford to feed yourself.

....again, that is by your definition. Each can be refuted for good
reason. Other than a handful of people that eschew earthly possessions
due to religious reasons, I doubt there are many who are poor by
choice. We all make bad decisions, mostly when young...but not
exclusively. Should life keep grinding one's nose in it because of
mistakes made when young? That mindset sounds particualry Republican
and as we all know...Republicans never make mistakes, now do they?
