I'm willing to bet that there are houses close by or some sort of bussines's
close, what would have happened if the dog had gotten hold of the man on the
first trip out. This situation wasn't one that needed to be resolved right
there on the spot.

Well, it was out in the county, so no, there's probably nothing nearby but
fence wire. I don't understand what having houses or businesses nearby would
have to do with a kid about to be toasted in a car or stopping a dog attack,
other than firing a gun with houses or businesses nearby wouldn't have beene a
good idea.

I think it did need to be resolved right there on the spot.
