In any close election, there will be a pivotal state in our winner
take all system.

Consider that in
the first case, the loser actually won the popular vote. I would think this
gives ample reason for many to believe GWB became president by means of
voting "problems."

Only people who don't understand the Constitution and how the
Electoral College works have this problem. It isn't the first time
the loser "won" the popular vote, and it won't be the last.

You are missing the point, I think. The idea is that the loser won
the popular vote, and the winner won on the basis of two states with
voting irregularities. It is not as simple as you might be trying to
make it out to be.

Since both states have acknowledged procedural voting problems, further
outcomes of the sort (in any state) are bound to result in many citizens
feeling disenfranchised from voting (a fundamental right and responsibility
of citizenship) ... feeling, also, that U.S. democracy is in jeopardy.

Every State has problems, especially with these damnable electronic
voting machines. Consider the governor's race in Washington; it
hinged on some "lost" ballots and extremely odd registrations. I say
we get rid of the lot and require pen and paper ballots for federal
office.

I think I agree with you on this one. Until someone can gurantee
reliable results, and undoctored vote counting software (Probably not
possible) I'd prefer a physical ballot.
