Ray,
Check the firewall log and see what's being blocked at the time you try
tracert. Also check to see if any 'svchost.exe' are being blocked. Unblock
if so.

Ray,
There are 19 types of ICMP request/responses, Ttracert uses types 10 and
11.
While we created a rule earlier to allow all ICMPs only on your local
subnet
(LAN), you can get tracert to (mostly) work if you create an additional
rule
to permit only incoming types 10 and 11 ICMP from the Internet (no
outbound
rule is necessary). It's a pretty small hole in the firewall, and not one
that Denial of Service attacks via a Ping Storm (ICMP type 0) can
effectively use, so its reasonably safe.
Name: Tracert ICMP
All applications

Allow
ICMP
Specified types: 10,11
All IPs
Thanks for the information. I set up the rule. I figured I'd just
leave the check out of it which should turn it off. I understand this
right no check & it does not work. But I tried it after I set the rule
up with the check in the box & I still could not get the tracert (
space ) bellsouth.net to work until I close TrendMicro.
I'm jinksed. :)

Ray,
Start, Run, enter 'cmd'.
Then enter:
tracert (wherever)
For instance, "tracert www.microsoft.com".
Turn off Trendmicro's firewall first. Otherwise, you'll never get out.
Or, create a rule allowing inbound and outbound ICMP protocol for all
IPs.
Be danm sure to disable or delete the rule after you're done, or turn
your
firewall back on.
Dam. I new I should have down loaded the thread before I posted to
this. That's how I figured out it was TrendMicro blocking it was when
I turned it off. I was hoping there was a way of setting up TrendMicro
so I could run it with it on. From what you just posted it looks like
I need to make sure I close everything then run the tracert with
TrendMicro turned off. :(
