I recently purchased a DVD from England. In matters having to do with

Well, the darned thing won't play. The only thing that comes on screen
is
"Region Code Error." Sure enough, I find "Region 2" printed on the back
of
the case. However, I have no idea what that means.
Questions:
1. Does this indicate some sort of coding on the DVD?
2. Is there any way I can adjust my player?
3. How can I play this DVD?

Barbara,

Lets try this agin (I'm posting from Google, as Bellsouth News is
down).

If your player is computer-attached, go to Control Panel, System,
Hardware tab, Device Manager. Expand DVD/CDROM, and select the player.
Right-click, Properites, DVD Region tab. It will show you the current
Region and let you change it.

If the player is standalone, I'll need the mfgr and model to determine
whther it can be changed.

Allan,

It's a JVC, made by Victor Company of Japan, Ltd., Model # HR-XVC26U.

I pulled out the instruction manual to get the model #, and find under
"Unplayable Discs" listed: Discs which have a region number other than "1".
Then they give examples of discs that can be played (which must include the
number "1" as being "all", "1", "1 2", "1 2 3 4", and "1 2 3 4 5 6".

Barbara

According to my searching this particular model has no unlock code
available.

A pretty decent place or JVC player information is here:
http://www.dvddemystifiziert.de/codefree_en/jvc.html

There are a multitude of others but they all say the same thing.
