Barbara,
For some models, the reset-code sequences have been discovered, but I cannot
find the Region reset codes for that model.
Obviously, the manual is for a Region 1 unit, (model HR-XVC26US), while the
unit is Region 2. I can only suggest that you contact the supplier for help
or refund, or contact JVC and explain that the device was purchased in
Region 2, and you live in Region 1. They may be able to tell you how to
change it, or they may require it be sent in to change.

It's a JVC, made by Victor Company of Japan, Ltd., Model # HR-XVC26U.
I pulled out the instruction manual to get the model #, and find under
"Unplayable Discs" listed: Discs which have a region number other than
"1". Then they give examples of discs that can be played (which must
include the number "1" as being "all", "1", "1 2", "1 2 3 4", and "1 2 3 4
5 6".
