Declaring _anything_ as a dead end

Who in this thread indicated that ethanol, or anything
else, for that matter, was a dead end??????????????

OS appeared to me to indicate that alcohol done with corn was a dead end,
whereupon I pointed out it wouldn't do us any good to try it with cane, since
we can't grow it most places. These two facts together would seem to declare
alcohol as a dead end for the purpose of energy independence. I then threw in
the idea of alcohol from switchgrass, which shows some promise since
switchgrass is a native grass that is pretty darn hardy. We may be able to
make a go of it if some smart guys cultivate an enzyme that will convert the
cellulose in the switchgrass to alcohol efficiently.

Maybe my server is missing some posts.

I think I quoted everything I replied to, so you should be able to see what I
was commenting about.
