Dave,

I read far enough to see where this oil formation reportedly is ... in the
Green River formation (actually part of the Colorado system), which flows
through the middle of Dinosaur National State Park. Let's hope they have a
way of extracting oil without reducing a national treasure to rubble. I've
rafted through there, on the Yampa flowing into the Green. Towering cliffs
created more than 4 million years ago. Silence and isolation in an area
time itself has made sacred. Home to the peregrine falcon and mountain
bighorn sheep. Irreplaceable petroglyphs.

Barbara,

I can understand those sentiments. I agree with it to some point.
That point will be way far over what conservatives will find
paletable.

At the same time, we run on oil. I wuld have it that our last 20
years worth of administrations would have bent the nation toward other
energy resources, but the oil companies have way more money with which
to buy government. Call me cynical.

I read an article about a farmer lamenting his situation about all
of his machinery that ran on diesel, or gasoline. Translate the cost
of fuel to the cost of running his farm, and to the idea that
foodstuffs are a commodity item that is traded globally. It is likely
to put him out of business.

That is also true of many industries in this nation including the
one I am employed in, since our primary feedstock is natural gas. The
price of natural gas is unnatrually high in this country compared to
many others.

Until we release the strangle hold that energy companies have upon
this country, we will continue to have issues. Until we reduce the
dependance Americans have on non-renewable resources, we will continue
to be held hsotage by the global oild companies. I wonder when this
administration will wake up; probably not until 2010.

Cheers! :)
