This is probably a good thing for the CLECs, and the consumers, in
New York. Time will tell.

I don't know how this is good for consumers, Dave. In other states,
Verizon
has jacked up their prices considerably. I was paying something like $40
a
month for the minimum service they provide. I gave up Verizon for a
go-phone. Happy I did.

I suppose it depends upon where you live. I have seen quite a few
go to VoIP phones on their cable internet. Perhaps, in some areas, it
benefits the consumer by pushing them accross the great divide to
other service providers for less money. It is sort of a mixed
blessing.<g>

Cheers! :)

One thing that's kept me from going with something like Vonage is that I
have phone and fax on a splitter on the same line. I do not know whether
Vonage could handle that. Another is that I've read these alternate phone
systems do not relay 911 calls very well. Since it hasn't really been
uppermost in my mind, I haven't checked to find out whether they have
answers to my questions.
