found a way of differentiating his comments from the reporter's, just
for ease of reading.

You Americans really are obsessed by how the RotW sees you, aren't
you? That used to be something that was said about the Japanese: if
they ever bothered asking a foreigner anything, the question was
always, How is Japan regarded in your country?

You guys are the same. You obviously have a totally overblown idea of
your own importance. You clearly have no idea of how you're regarded
by other nations. You're quite unable to parse the world's insatiable
appetite for American cultural products, which in reality only really
means action movies, and cult TV series to a lesser extent. You're
constantly on the lookout to justify your existence by reference to a
military intervention more than 60 years ago, ignoring everything
that's happened in the meantime.

It's kind of sad, all this "Look at me!" carry-on, like a child that
only feels loved for what she can do (I have named this Bonnie
Langford Syndrome) and not for who she is.
