Actually, polls, (for what they're worth) show that most of the "country" is
not particularly upset over monitoring international phone calls from
suspected terrorists.
Politically, it's going to be a pretty tough sell that President Bush has
been too aggressive in trying to prevent more terrorist bombings in America.
As the Moose says, the Democratic Party is becoming a party of
neo-McGovernites and will likely suffer the same fate as their ideological
ancestors.
What the Democrats are trying to spin is the potential for abuse for
political ends. An irony not lost on some is that the Democrats are losing
a current political fight over a fear of losing a future political fight.
Because of politicalization, the debate is fast becoming a conversation
between two lawyers. Lots of posturing and hot air, but ultimately, nothing
more substantial than posturing and hot air. The political ineptness of the
Republican Party is only surpassed by the political ineptness of the
Democratic party.
Ultimately, reality defines reality.
