So what do you propose ?
I contend we made a mess and we must do everything possible to fix this
mess.

The original goal was not to fix things, but after this was false "no
weapons", and that was false "Iraqis would love us and fall in line" we
ended up with a mess to which we were responsible in more ways than one.
Starting with a somewhat CIA support coup that helped Saddam get to power in
the first place to our help in his obtaining knowledge of WMDs, hell he did
us well during the "Cold War", the bottom line is we helped create the mess
in the first place, a large part of why we ended up there was the results of
our own doings.
Don't get me wrong folks, America had plenty of hell in this mess, we're the
only ones in sense that owes up to it, but thats another topic.
Regardless of the reasons why how we got in Iraq. we were forced to fix
things, we tore the whole infrastructure apart and it was up to us to put it
back together again. In this case Humpty Dumpty did'nt fall, he was pushed.
I'm not going to bother with the Vietnam analogy.
Yep we should of kept Saddam in power, we could of rolled into Iraq, looked
for the weapons and left, so very hummane. One has tobe living in a fools
paradise to not understand that US troops were eventually going tobe Iraq
regardless.
