It's politics. And growth vs no-growth. The change to the airport would be
gradual. First, instead of private aviation, they'd allow charters to
Orlando and maybe Miami, then it's "puddle jumpers" taking commercial fares
to Orlando, Tampa, and Miami for flights elsewhere. Then, after demand
increases, they try to attract a commercial carrier to do direct flights to
Chicago or New York. Each step would trigger growth; buildings, terminal,
etc.
I've seen it happen before. Trust me, I am not in favor of it.
