Youtube and UMG claims to copyright

You should be aware that UMG has undertaken a contract with youtube that
gives UMG the "right" to claim ownership of copyright to any music "At
will". Even if they do not actually own the copyright.

Is there any way of verifying the fact that UMG does own a copyright to any
particular music?

The US copyright office has the original copyright and renewal information.
They may, or may not have, information on who actually owans the copyright.
