Shadowstalker,The main reason for the question was that I just wanted to use my phone in an emergency. I didn't want to have to keep minutes on it. I am told that you can use a cell phone to call 911 even if it doesn't have minutes.
Would calling 911 from a cell phone because you are broke down on the side of the road be a valid emergency?
Unless you are feeling threatened or are in a dangerous area, 911 is overkill. The Fire Department certainly isn't going to come out and fix your car.
Many 911 centers have access to towing companies, so they can call a tow out for you. WARNING: The County 911 I used to work for had a contract with the various tow companies. You were charged a HIGHER RATE if 911 called the tow for you.
If you had a cell phone, why didn't you simply call information and get a tow out yourself rather than call 911?
