My mom who is in her 70s owns a house and I own a condo, both in
northern NJ. We plan on moving into her house and vice versa. What
is the best way to handle the move to minimize taxes?
Mutual leases.
We need
documentation because we have a child that needs to be enrolled in
school in my mom's home.
If there's an actual public school in your mom's home, that will certainly
cut down on commuting time. There are no tax advantages to that though.
Unless you're home schooling, in which case there are certain deductions
available. Where is the school in your mom's home? In the basement? In an
outbuilding? We'll need more info.
