Yes. This doesn't mean they'll win.

Yes. But this also doesn't mean you'll win. Verbal
contracts, while *legally* binding, aren't always easy to prove. You
will claim X and they will claim Y.

I suggest you wait until any and all lawsuits have reached
their conclusions. If you sue, and win, put a lien on the property.
