Razor,
I think that the OP wants his wife to inherit a part of an estate where
the decedents outlived the wife's father. Since the wife's father was dead
he could not inherit. If there was a will it would need to address the
"pre-demise" of the father or in some other way convey things to the wife or
her mother. There's probably also a statute of limitations to prevent
raising these issues now.
I think discussing this matter with a probate lawyer would be a waste of
money. Buying a copy of the wills of the grandparents might be worth doing
but I doubt it. Such wills should be available in the county where the
grandparents died.
Urging Jody to believe that his wife was "ripped off" will probably hurt
family relations and accomplish nothing positive.
